Who is Sino-British Academy ?

Feldenkrais training programs are offered through Sino-British Academy based in Shanghai. Sino-British Academy is especially known for its provision of high quality training in Movement and Manual Therapy based courses in China.

What is your history ?

Sino-British Academy (formerly known as Bodyworks Studio) originally started out as a movement and manual therapy studio in Shanghai in 2008 offering client based solutions in Pilates, Fitness Manual Therapy and workshops based on the teachings of Moshe Feldenkrais.

What is your history with the teachings of Moshe Feldenkrais ?

Sino-British Academy / Bodyworks Studio first began offering classes and workshops based on the teachings of Moshe Feldenkrais in 2010. 

What is the Certification for the upcoming Training ?

The upcoming training program is a 4 year program that will enable the student to be a fully recognized and certified teacher based on the works of Moshe Feldenkrais. This certification will be recognized worldwide including China. 

Location and Student Numbers

The training will be held at the Bodyworks (BaoWo) Studio in Shanghai.

Certificates

All persons whom graduate the 4 year program will receive the certification of a Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner recognized worldwide including Functional Integration and Awareness Through Movement.

There are no certificates issued until the student has graduated from the whole program and deemed to have met the standards approved by the educational director.

The certificate is issued by the Australasian Training and Accreditation Board (AusTAB)

Requirements of the Program

The student has to to give 2 Awareness through Movement lessons before the third year and 2 Functional Integration lessons before the end of the 4th year under the supervision of a Trainer or Assistant Trainer. 

The student cannot be absent more than 5 days per year, and not more than 10 days over the 4 years of the training program. 

Beyond that limit the student will have to make up the missing days. The staff and/or teachers of will inform her/him about the way to catch up in another training program. 

Daily Program

Each training day will consist of 5 hours of teacher to student interaction. The content for each day will vary but will be based around the 2 principles of Awareness Through Movement and Functional Integration lessons.

Experience

Prospective students need not have any experience to join the course however it is naturally advised that he or she has taken either some Awareness Through Movement or Functional Integration sessions or preferably both!

There is no physical restriction for an age limit however it is usually advised that persons be at least 16 years of age.

Equipment and Teaching Materials

Students will need to bring a blanket and comfortable clothing. Other teaching equipment such as foam rollers will be supplied.

There are no manuals.

Students receive MP3 files of the training which will be made available through the Sino-British Academy Platform for students whom have attended the segment.

Video recording in the training is strictly prohibited!

Videos of the demonstrations given within the segment will be made available on the Sino-Platform but at an extra cost and only available to students whom have attended the segment.

Transferring from Other Programs

Students are welcome to transfer from other programs from anywhere in the world. Sino-British Academy program follows the curriculum according to the international Feldenkrais Training Accreditation Guidelines of the NATAB (Feldenkrais Training Accreditation Board for North America), AusTAB (Feldenkrais Training Accreditation Board for Australia and Pacific Area), the EuroTAB and DTAB which means the credits you earn from another program can be transfferred over.

Teachers

Paul Newton (Program Director)

Paul Newton is today one of the most acknowledged Feldenkrais trainers in the world. Serving as Educational Director for Feldenkrais Teacher Training programs across Europe, Paul runs programs in Spain, France and Germany. He works as a guest trainer throughout Europe, as well as in Japan, Australia, Mexico and Argentina. Though originally from the US, his international trajectory makes him more of a citizen of the world.

In the early years, he studied Psychology with a focus in Gestalt Therapy. Realizing that psychological stability is in no way different from physical stability, as well as the fact that every emotion has its somatic component and cannot be inhabited without its somatic counterpart, led him eventually to the Feldenkrais Method.

Pursuing his passion for movement and its emotional and sensational qualities, he bounced between Europe and New York – studying at the Merce Cunningham Studio (considered one of the greatest American dancers and choreographers). After seeing Pina Bausch perform, he took a free year to study the performing arts at the Folkwang Hochschule in Essen, Germany.

Alfons Grabher

Mr Grabher first came to China to conduct workshops based on the teachings of Moshe Feldenkrais in 2010 and currently has the largest following for teaching the method on the YouTube channel. 

Author of several books with 10,000 + copies sold.

One of the largest Feldenkrais related websites in German language with 1,600+ visitors per month.

Certified member of the Austrian Feldenkrais Guild.

12+ years experience in teaching hands-on one-on-one and group classes.

Specialised in treating chronic pain such as back pain, knee pain, shoulder pain, neck pain, as well as working with high performers such as musicians, actors, educators and sports men. 

Patrick Gruner

Patrick Gruner has been head of a Feldenkrais Training Institute in Germany since 1993. He is a trainer of the Method and is teaching the method in professional training programs all over Europe. Patrick is a member of several boards of the German Feldenkrais Association (FVD) regarding the professional development of the method and was decisively involved in the formation of the German TAB.

Stephen Rosenholtz

Stephen Rosenholtz, PhD. earned his master's degree in Education at Harvard University in 1971 and his doctorate in Education at Stanford University in 1981.  He trained personally under Moshe Feldenkrais, has directed seven Feldenkrais Trainings in Mexico, Europe and the USA  and teaches worldwide in training programs for Practitioners.  Dr. Rosenholtz has a lifelong interest in teaching and the relationship between the development of multiple abilities and the self-image.

Stephen is also the creator of the musical developmental movement programs MOVE LIKE THE ANIMALS and MONKEY MOVES, based on Lessons in Awareness Through Movement. 

Stephanie Spink

Stephanie Spink is a teacher of the method known for her clear and practical teaching style.  She originally graduated as a Physiotherapist in 1977. She began exploring the Feldenkrais Method in 1982, out of a curiosity to improve her own well-being and understanding of human function.  She was endorsed as a Feldenkrais Trainer in 2010. 

She has is currently directing her 3rd Training as an Educational Director. She has taught in programs in Australia, New Zealand, Japan, China, South America and Europe. She lives in Melbourne, Australia and maintains a private practice.  She enjoys facilitating the learning of others in order that they may be able to live their lives more fully, easily and with greater pleasure through self understanding and knowledge.

Marilupe Campero

Marilupe Campero has been the general coordinator of the Professional Feldenkrais Training Program at the Faculty of Medicine at the Universidad de Colima, in Mexico for 20 years. Co – educational Director since 2015.

A physiotherapist with a degree in Occupational Therapy, masters degree in Human Development, Marilupe has been working at the Centro de Atención Múltiple (School for Students with development difficulties) since 1985.

She has been practicing the Feldenkrais Method for more than 25 years and is the co-director of CEAM, Centre for Learning and Movement in Colima.

 She has taught both public as well as professional courses in Mexico, and several countries around the world.

She is a cofounder of the Mexican Feldenkrais Method Association AMMEF.
